The Florida Celtic U15 Boys team are State Champions! This weekend they competed against three other regions from around the state to win the Florida Youth Soccer Associations’ President’s Cup. In Saturday’s semi-final match they were victorious over Orlando’s Florida Rush 1-0. In the finals, Celtic came back from an 0-2 deficit to win 4-2 over Kendall Hammocks to become state champions.
Coach Kevin Welland was worried at half time ““Kendall were the better team in the first half and we found ourselves 2-0 down at half time. I told the boys that if they were going to win this game from 2 -0 down, they would need to play the game of their lives. And they did!”. Coach Welland went on to say “I am so proud of this group of boys, they showed an immense amount of character and determination to tie the game up and then go on and win in overtime. It was extremely hot and we had several players cramping up. This is an amazing group of boys with fantastic amount of team spirit and work ethic. It will be an honor for them to represent our club and Florida in Louisiana in June.”
The Celtic team will represent Florida at the USYS Region III Tournament in Lafayette, LA in June. If they emerege as the winners, they will play for the national title in July.
