ABOUT THE STRIKER TRAINING PROGRAM
There is nothing better and more exciting in a soccer game than scoring a goal. In this program, players will build self-confidence and skills that are needed to be a great goal scorer. Celtic FC Florida can boast one of most accomplished strikers, Peter Ward, as both a team coach but also as the facilitator of one of our specialist programs, Striking and Finishing.
Peter was voted Brighton and Hove Albion’s All Time Greatest Player by Sky (European ESPN equivalent) viewers in 2009. Peter made his Brighton debut in front of BBC’s Match of the Day cameras and scored a goal within 50 seconds. Over the next four years his flamboyant style and goal-scoring exploits made him one of the most popular soccer players of his generation. After Brighton, ‘Wardy’ went to Nottingham Forest which were the European Champions at the time.
The story continued for Peter, with his next move taking him to the North American Soccer League, and the Seattle Sounders. In 1982, Wardy was named NASL Player of the Year, and he continued to be a successful and popular player in the States for many years.
In Peter’s program, players can expect to improve their composure in front of the goal as well as increase the speed and accuracy of their shots. Players will be challenged in an intense environment. Topics will include power finishing, finesse finishing, 1 v 1 breakaway finishing and finishing from crosses. Key areas that Peter will focus with players on are:
- Shooting Technique: How to strike a ball
- Bending the Ball
- 1v1 against Goalkeeper
- Finishing through Heading
- Finishing from a Cross
- Volleying the Ball
- Dead Ball and Free Kicks
- 1v1 Attacking
- Finishing Under Pressure
